Client Spotlight – Victoria Tryon

by

Here at the Designated Group we are on our clients’ journeys with them, so we get excited when they get excited!

Victoria Tryon is excited… and very busy, creating extraordinary bespoke jewellery for a discerning clientele.

We caught up with Victoria to talk about her motivations and inspirations, get some sage advice, and consider the eternal search for balance…

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your company?

I started in the jewellery industry in my early 20s, studying gemmology with the Gemmological institute of America in my spare time. I have worked with some of the finest jewellery houses in the world including Cartier, Boucheron and Harry Winston. I founded my jewellery company 9 years ago.

How has your Designated PA contributed to your recent successes?

My Designated PA Rebecca allows me to focus on creativity and business development. Previously, I found myself bogged down with admin and unable to get to the things I enjoyed most, as well as generating income.

How does your Designated PA help you on a day to day basis?

Rebecca assists in lowering my stress levels, as I can delegate things that might otherwise mount up and become a source of stress.

What is a typical working day like for you?

There isn’t really a typical working day; some days I’m in the office working with my business partner on my second business, Curated by Victoria, other days I am in the West End running between meetings, workshops and sourcing stones. I have two young children, some days I work half days in order to be with them.

What is your biggest achievement so far?

My children!

What success do you still strive for?

The ability to prioritise and not do too much, putting less pressure on myself.

What motivates you?

That moment when someone receives one of my pieces and how thrilled they are. Particularly, if it’s a bespoke piece and I have been working on it together with them, it’s a wonderful process.

Who inspires you and why?

I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by many inspirational people. I find many female entrepreneurs inspiring, particularly those juggling demanding careers with family life. I constantly look to these individuals for tips and tricks on how to make life a little easier.

What projects are you working on currently? And which one excites you most?

I am working on about four bespoke projects at the moment, including one for myself! It’s an anniversary present for my husband. It’s not often that I get to work on something for myself and I’m really enjoying it! There’s no tight deadline and I can really take my time and enjoy the process.

What is the hardest thing you have done in your career so far?

Try to balance it with the children in their early years and maintain perspective and not get overwhelmed.

Best bit of advice you have received?

Be observant, not just of your surroundings and others but particularly yourself. Be aware of your actions, analyse what works and what doesn’t for yourself, you are a unique individual after all.

Advice you would give to others?

Slow down!

Now for some quickfire questions!

What would you not leave the house without? A notebook.
What would you not fly without? Wet wipes… nowadays! Previously a water mist facial spray and a scarf. I try to stay hydrated. I do find the temperature on planes can be quite temperamental and I really dislike being cold.
Things you buy in bulk? Almonds and dates – I bake a lot with the children. We use sugar free recipes, often the base ingredients are almonds and dates.
An amazing fact about you? I have a python, Mali Garnet, who I’ve had for over ten years since she was a baby.
Favourite restaurant? The River Café is consistently good. The private dining room is great for larger numbers and a more intimate setting.
Favourite book? The Thomas Crown Affair, I love a bit of who dunnit with a sprinkling of glamour.
Favourite city hotel? I visit Paris quite regularly and currently Le Roch Hotel is my base there. There’s a fantastic pool and it has lovely intimate feel about it. Also, very well located but out of the hubbub.
Preferred form of exercise? Combination of yoga and Pilates, mostly. I am looking to feel stronger and healthier but above all have an experience that assists in calming the mind and the benefits that one receives from that.
Perfect Sunday afternoon? Reading the papers (such a luxury nowadays) and drinking tea.
