Backlinks can drive an enormous amount of traffic to your website if carefully sourced and are the main building blogs of SEO. But what are they?
Back-links ( also know as inbound links ) are links from other websites directed to yours. As a general guide, the higher the number of backlinks, the more important and popular the site will be. SEO loves good quality backlinks and will give your website priority over others in their results pages for a search query.
It’s vital to point out that the more relevant the site is to yours, the better quality of the backlink as seen through the eyes of SEO. So if your website is for start up advice, then linking to an website on animal care would not be a great match!
So let’s take a look at a few simple methods to increase your backlinks and drive more traffic.
Backlink Builder – Backlink builder can search for websites that have a similar theme to yours and are more likely to add your link to their website. Just type in the key words of your business, for example ‘recruitment’ and scroll down the search results and connect to the most suitable website.
Quora – Quora is a Q&A social media community. Firstly, create a free account and then search for key words relevant to your industry and then reply to the answers that come up in the results. For example, you could create a blog post regarding time management, type these key words in Quora and use the blog post linking to your site as an answer.
Guest Posting – A method extremely popular in the blogging world, is to reach out to relevant sites and ask if you can collaborate with a blog post in exchange for a backlink to your site. Ensure you mention the value of your post and why it is so relevant to their readers. An added mention as to why you picked their site over others will also help!
Infographics – Infographics are the most shared content on the web today and can generate over 4 times more traffic than a regular post. To create an infographic, I suggest using Canva which has a simple template you can use. Once you have created your infographic with a backlink to your site, , ensure you share it through all social media platforms, especially Pinterest. Then sit back and wait for the shares and views to come in.
Mention Influencers – As a content executive, I could for example create a blog post on my top 5 social media influencers for 2016 and have Jeff Bullas at number 1 with a link to his site. ( He actually has just been voted as the number one influencer for 2016! ) His staff will regularly check the backlinks driving traffic to their site and will pick up on my content piece. An alternative method is to write the piece and post in on social media and tag him into it using Twitter for example.
