My first month as a Designated social media manager

by

I have to admit, the winter months are not the ideal time to start homeworking.  Two days into my new role as a social media manager with Designated PA, the heating in our home office broke.  I could have retreated into the house (from the garden) and turned up the radiators full blast. However, the combination of a burgeoning entrepreneurial spirit, and the knowledge that the gas bill would loom large, forced me to take charge of the situation.  I changed my first fuse!  A quick win in the first few days of my new freelance life.

Flexible working

Having worked long hours in large corporate organisations before I had my children, I have been fortunate since to find roles which have fitted around school hours. But as my twins get older, and move on to secondary education, flexible working is actually even more important to me.

I’m a graduate of the Digital Mums Social Media Marketing programme, an intensive and interactive course which has consolidated my skills, enabling me to help small businesses navigate the sometimes choppy waters of social media and digital marketing. Joining the team at Designated PA has given me the opportunity to work efficiently and effectively for the company and their clients.  I don’t waste any time commuting and I can be available for my children, whether it be for the school run, homework, or just a chat.

Working with a virtual team

In my first month, I’ve got involved with email marketing, website content, and providing strategy and analytics advice. I’ve got to grips with four new IT packages that help the virtual team communicate online – I’ve never let any software beat me yet! The support from the team has been fantastic, there’s always someone just a phone call away. In fact, I’ve caught up with other Designated colleagues via text, WhatsApp, Skype, in coffee shops and at a team away day. Each person brings their own skills and experience, providing clients with a pool of talent via their own Designated PA, medical secretary or marketing manager.

Using social media to boost business

I know it’s going to be an exciting 2018. I can’t wait to help more and more businesses get to grips with social media. And my neighbours are now delighted that they don’t have to take in my Amazon packages!
