Taking the Leap from PA to VA – Part 1

by

Designated were delighted to be invited to present at this years Birmingham PA Forum Learning and Development conference in February.  Myself and Jane Braithwaite MD, discussed the topic of making the transition from Personal Assistant (PA) to Virtual Assistant (VA) and talking all things flex!

From PA to VA

The event was a great success and the perfect opportunity to meet so many experienced PA and industry professionals.

There are many reasons why people choose to become a VA, but often it is the lure of flexible working.

Research suggests that flexibility can create greater job satisfaction as well as a more balanced lifestyle. Personally, the flexibility enabled me to be a more hands-on mum while still furthering my career.

Flexible working is in demand

There has been a cultural shift in many businesses and flexible working is more in demand than ever before.  A recent study carried out by XpertHR revealed that a massive 80% of employers are prepared to consider requests to work flexibly.

Moving from PA to VA is a big decision and there is so much to consider.  With this in mind we bring together a series of articles for any PA’s looking for advice on how to make a successful transition from PA to VA.

5 part series: Key topics when making the transition from PA to VA.

  1. How do I set up as a VA? and what research you will need to do in order to set up a VA business.
  2. How do I get clients and market my business? and how to best market your business using networking and social media.
  3. VA Mindset Top tips from our super PA, Christina on how to hone your outlook for career success.
  4. How to look after yourself as a VA great ideas on how to look after yourself.

We don’t pretend to know it all but between us on the Designated PA team we have many years working virtually as a Personal Assistant.  We hope our series will help any PAs out there that are considering making that leap.  There is a lot to consider but if the groundwork is there you can become a successful Virtual Personal Assistant.
